The Jet Propulsion Laboratory—we call it JPL, or simply the Lab—is a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC) for robotic space and Earth science missions. We are managed by Caltech for NASA. Since the 1930s, JPL creations and discoveries have led to many of the nation's “firsts,” including the first U.S. Earth-orbiting satellite, interplanetary spacecraft, lunar lander, planetary rover, and first spacecraft to leave the solar system.

NASA’s Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium (WSGC) hosts First Nations Launch (FNL) National Rocket Competition. This competition is an opportunity for students attending a Tribal College or University, or who are members of a campus AISES chapter, to design, build, and fly a rocket to be launched at a competition at the Richard Bong State Recreational Area in Kansasville, WI.

Through its Fellowship Programs, the Ford Foundation seeks to increase the diversity of the nation’s college and university faculties. Administered by the Academies since 1979, these programs provide fellowship support at the predoctoral, dissertation and postdoctoral levels. Eligibility is limited to U.S. citizens, permanent residents and individuals granted deferred action status under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program who can demonstrate superior academic achievement, are committed to a career in teaching and research at the college or university level, show promise of future achievement as scholars and teachers, and are well prepared to use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.

We prepare technical leaders for advanced careers in industry, academia, and government agencies by identifying and selecting highly qualified students to complete a program of STEM graduate study and industry internships. GEM also conducts two signature programs to promote the participation and successful graduation of under-represented minorities at the graduate level in science and engineering.
